Peter iinsisted we stop at Arcosanti to check status of construction. Apparently he comes here every 10 years or so – like a pilgrimage to check construction of his retirement condo.
Arcosanti is kind of a strange hippie enclave in the middle of the desert. The design is actually pretty cool and forward thinking in terms of efficiency, effect on environment etc..
Mar 1: Back in San Diego. What a relief. All in all, I don’t recommend this Southern Route along I40 from Charlotte to San Diego. There’s not really much to see nature wise, its not very pretty in general (nature and man made!). Appreciated the company from Peter – I think I owe him another trip!
Side note: I am writing this a few months after the fact, and after a couple months spent in the Pacific NW of the US and Canada, and in that perspective I now see how run down a lot of the US is. Its kind of sad in perspective. If you are used to it, you don’t think much of it. I have been in 10+ countries around the world but for some reason the more I travel in Canada the more I think it is unfortunate that the US doesn’t have the same standard of living as our northern neighbour. I think its like being compared to a close relative – it is more significant because that relative had the same upbringing and opportunities.
